BOOKS

There are books in different languages available in the library. They are divided into following sections:

  • General Books
  • Books for Reference
  • Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Literature
  • Children's books
  • Exclusive section for S.T. Students
  • Hindi and Sanskrit books
  • Viswa Sahitya Granthamala
  • Books in other Indian languages

NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINES

Newspaper and Magazines are available in the evening session. Old news papers and periodicals are available only on Sunday evenings.

PROCUREMENT

Books are usually procured in two ways - Donation / Gift and Purchase. Unconditional Donation of books is always welcome. Books are chosen considering their merit, condition and requirement. Books received in donation which cannot be accommodated are given away to smaller libraries or individuals as deemed fit. Purchase of Books is according to member suggestions, needs and the availability of funds.

AVAILING THE LIBRARY FACILITIES

Any available book in the library can be referred to by the member. Newspapers, periodicals and other study material can be read by visitors in the reading room. Some magazines and booklets are restricted to members only.

Lending facilities are available only to the registered and valid members of the library. Rare books, books for reference and periodicals cannot be lent. Normally one member can be issued only one book against a borrower's ticket for a maximum period of fourteen days from the date of issue. The cost of the book is kept within the caution deposit amount of the member. Costly books can be issued after an additional deposit. A book can be re-issued for two more weeks subject to non-demand by any other member. A member may also get one additional borrower's card as per library procedure.

Membership is allowed to the general public, preferably Indian Citizen. Four categories of lending membership are allowed.

  • Children[ Age group 4 - 12 ]
  • Student [ Age > 12 and < 20 ]
  • S.T [ Students belonging to S.T community ]
  • General [ Open for all ]

Membership is to be applied in the prescribed application form with two stamp size photos. Adults have to produce a copy of their voter identity card issued by the Election Commission of India. Students have to produce their current institutional identity card. Person having no such proof have to get their application sponsored by a gazetted officer or a known referral. The secretary reserves the right to allow or cancel one's membership without explaining the reason. Members will be given a borrower's ticket (nontransferable) against which books can be lent.

There is a category of non lending members. This is for those who wish to only read books for reference purpose within the library. Readers wishing to access premium magazines can also become a non lending member. The non lending member will be issued a membership card upon payment of a yearly fee of Rs. 50/-.

LATE FINE

A late fine of twenty-five paise per day per book will be charged against a member if the book is not returned during the due date.

The equation is:
Date of return - Due date X 25 paise = Fine amount

Additional charge of rupees two against each reminder sent to a defaulter is added to his or her account. The membership is terminated and caution deposit is adjusted against dues if the defaulter does not respond even after final reminder. The library authorities reserve the legal and other options to get back the library book from the defaulter borrower.

FINE FOR DAMAGES

The library authorities may fine adequately if any damage is done to the book, book-cards and other library properties by any user. Giving comments, tearing pages/ pictures or making any short of change/modification to the reading materials are considered as serious offences and punishable act.

LOSS OF BOOK / BORROWER'S TICKET

If one member loses a library book under his possession, he has to replace the same with a new hardbound copy or deposit the amount claimed by the authorities depending upon the merit of the book. For minimum, it should not be less than twice the price of the lost book.

If borrower's ticket is lost it should be immediately reported in written to the library-in-charge. Damages whatsoever has to be borne by the member in such a case. A duplicate borrower's ticket may be issued on payment of rupees five only.

REFUNDS

Caution deposits can be withdrawn after surrendering borrower's ticket, caution money deposit receipt along with clearance of membership dues and all other charges due till the date of withdrawal of membership. Extra caution deposits can be withdrawn after returning the specific book borrowed against such deposit. Payments made towards subscription and other charges are not refundable.
