The Vivekananda Library under Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Bhubaneswar was established in 1963, the birth centenary year of Swami Vivekananda. Its primary aim was to disseminate Indian culture, values and tradition amongst the youth taking the help of scriptures in its custody which, almost a century ago, were studied and revered by many liberated and exulted saints of the Ramakrishna Order. With the passing years it has kept pace with the career needs of educated young people and it now makes available a variety of books both academic and professional. The well stocked multi discipline library contains all important titles from around the globe consisting of books, encyclopedia, reference volumes, periodicals, project reports, and audio visual aids. The Vivekananda Library with its exquisite collection of books and its spacious free reading room offering numerous magazines, newspapers and other study aids attracts thousands of readers from all parts of the city and beyond.

 The Library

The library was computerized since 2000. Such computerization helped in book search as well as keeping track of books lent to its members. Currently plans are afoot to introduce computer aided audio visuals and internet browsing facilities with links to e-books and major knowledge centers. A children's corner named "Multimedia Zone" equipped with high speed computers is also on the anvil.

Monthly Meetings are held regularly in the evening of last Friday every month. Usually two youth speakers and one guest-speaker speak to the audience followed by a question-answer session. Specialists from different fields are invited to be the guest-speaker of such monthly meetings. The normal activities of the library are suspended during the period of the meeting.
